ALWAYS THINK OF SAFETY: * Never leave a child unattended in a pool, tub, or spa. * Police both the areas inside and outside your pool. To gain access children may use chairs, boxes, ladders, and other objects left outside the pool. * Wadding pools, buckets, and drains should be emptied of water when not in use and must be closely supervised when in use. * If your pool is easily accessed through your home lock doggie doors. * Never prop open a gate and leave it unattended. * Install a passive infrared alarm system that will protect the entire pool area. It may not be healthy for all of us to get into a highly active lifestyle all at once but it is possible to get there as quickly as you safely can as an individual. Eat a healthy balanced diet. Monitor closely the amounts of salt, sugar, alcohol, and saturated fat. Reduce the intake of all of these. I dont want to spoil peoples fun and enjoyment but using a low calorie mixer with your favorite alcohol just wont cut it! A great many foods have enough salt. Living Single and Loving It
By Maureen Staiano Each day we are bombarded by ads and tips for navigating the world of online dating. If we didnt know better we might believe that in order to be complete in our life we have to have a mate. Well if that were true, what about all the folks out there living single and apparently loving it? In 1970 only 7.8% of Americans aged 30-34 had never married. By 2003 that number had risen to 27.9%. The reasons are many, the rise in the divorce rate, the feminist movement and the intolerance by many singles to be married just for the sake of having a partner. Add to that the fact that as people live longer there is a greater chance they will be living that way as a widow or widower. The plus side is that it is easier than ever to be living single. Though it once may have been the norm to have a two parent household with the rise in the divorce rate many parents are doing the job alone or sharing it with their ex-spouse. Having a child as single woman or adopting as a single parent have found an acceptance today that they might not have enjoyed twenty or so years ago. Despite what you may have been led to believe single people are living full and happy lives and are not necessarily looking to change their single status. That is not to say they shun relationships, but instead they feel free to not settle for anything less than Mr. or Ms. Right. If the perfect person comes along it is a blessing but if it never happens they certainly dont feel as though they have been cursed.
Single woman today do not depend on a partner for financial security. She has her own investments, buys her own home and has a family if she should desire. In fact single women are the second largest group of home buyers nationally. Clearly a man does not define who she is for she is perfectly capable of defining herself. As for the single men out there, a woman does not equal a complete life. They are able to create that for themselves. Many singles feel that marriage is a full time job and for now they have other goals they want to achieve. They have career and education goals that take priority and if a relationship does not interfere with these goals that is fine but clearly a relationship may be a little lower on the list of priorities. Lets not discount the population of single adults left in the wake of rising divorce rates. Living single has allowed the opportunity to reconnect with them self, after being in an unsuccessful relationship. Living single can help to define what the appealing parts of a relationship are and what they would not tolerate again. Whereas it is true that for some people singleness is thrust upon them through the death of a spouse or a partner, for a growing number of others it is a conscious choice. Though many admit it was not their first choice they have come to accept life on lifes terms and pursue nothing less than a full and happy life. Researchers may have found that married people are happier than single people and even live longer. Many traditionalists may feel that singles are making a mistake by shunning the accepted view of how men and women should conduct their lives, meaning together, for the benefit of society. Despite these beliefs it appears that the marriage rate is slowing down and todays singles are finding that the traditional married role will not necessarily guarantee happiness. Living single today includes carving out a life that is uniquely your own. By the looks of it, whether they remain single in the short term or for the long haul, single men and women are finding ways to love it. Unfaithfulness
By Kevin Madu AS I STARED at the sunset, I marveled at its beauty. The scenario got me thinking about an issue a friend had brought up sometime ago. It was a very ticklish matter, one that seems to perplex everyone even the so-called professionals. Are people faithful? the question replayed itself in my head. I had looked at her for a while then, and gave her a laconic answer; Maybe, ah I dont know. It was not childs play anymore; it was a question in need of an answer.
I was prompted to put pen to paper because of some recent developments. Developments that I never could have foreseen. Is someone being unfaithful? Or is everyone being unfaithful? That is the confusion. Even the unfaithful that are caught in the act deny it. If their denial holds no water, they back it up with irrational excuses. With each passing day deceit, cheating and heartbreak unfold; a person is geared up to deftly take unfaithfulness in the face without batting an eyelid because they saw it coming. Even foresight is not enough to stop heartbreak or prevent the affected from feeling dejected after falling prey. But why should one be unfaithful, why deceit and why cheat? The human being is like a machine, or rather, a programmed robot with embedded mature buttons. A push of a button displays a character trait jealousy, cheating, hatred, love, lost, confidence, rebellion, sympathy, joy, aggression, ego, belief, unbelief, unfaithfulness, to name a few. People are animals. They parted because they were not satisfied with the relationship or because they were rejected by the lover involved. What matters here is total resistance and an adamant resolution not to fall prey to a tempting intruder. Avoidance is one tactic that would work like a charm. Staying away from the encroaching ex-lover and seeing less of them would put a big ditch between the two parties involved and as time passes the feeling of obsession and loss they have would gradually die off. In conclusion, love is the ultimate in any relationship. Love changes everything. It may not change who the partners are, but it sure makes the differences between them less important. Love endures, love perseveres, love withstands torture, love passes the test of time and love overshadows all other negative emotions. There has to be genuine love shared by partners. Love should and must be immeasurable with both partner knowing no doubt, nor too shy to act. Love is the foundation of an everlasting relationship not lust, not a crush - love. Love does not hibernate, it remains forever strong. The partners have to love each other greatly and there will be no room for infidelity. Want to Lose weight? How to Keep Your New Year's Resolutions this Year
By Janice Elizabeth Small Losing weight is one of the most common New Year's resolutions to make and the one that is most often broken. Do you make the same promise to yourself year and year, and end up right back where you started or (worse) with a few more pounds to lose? What will make this year different? 1. Focus Trying to make too many changes at once is going to mean you succeed at nothing. If you want to lose weight, make sure you haven't got too many other goals and ambitions vying for your attention. You don't have to focus on losing weight and nothing else (sometimes that is counter-productive) but I recommend that you should make no more than 3 resolutions or take on no more than 3 projects at any time to have the most chance of success. If weight loss is not important enough to be in your top 3 then forget it until it is - it's just not important enough to you to make the effort. 2. Be Specific Many people make a vague resolution to "lose weight" or "get fitter" never really defining what that means. What exactly do you want to achieve? How will you know when you have succeeded? Sometimes we are afraid to set a specific target because it is then very easy to see whether we have succeeded or failed. But you need to put the possibility of failure out of your mind and just keep your eye firmly on your target to increase your chances of success. If you spend your time worrying about failure that's exactly what you will do. Commit to a target and go all out for it. 3. Have a Plan Having a target but no idea how you will get there makes success difficult from the start. Deciding to lose 20lbs and just thinking you will "be more careful with what you eat" or "do a bit more exercise" is unlikely to help you. But it doesn't mean that you have to know exactly what you will do for the next 6 months either. Sometimes it's off-putting if you imagine how much effort you may have to put in to achieve you goal over months and months. But you CAN plan one day or one week at a time as long as you do plan ahead. Plan what you will eat. Plan how you will get more movement into your life and then carry out your plan one step, one day, one week at a time. 4. Take a Gradual Approach How many of us decide that from January 1st things will be different - and I mean completely different? Suddenly we imagine we'll be paragons of virtue as far as eating is concerned. No junk food will pass our lips. And from being couch potatoes we decide we are going to join a gym (or finally dust off that membership we've been paying for and not using) and get down there for a full-workout three times a week. How long do you keep this up? A week, a month, three-months at most? Most people have given up on such far-reaching changes by February. But if you decide to make your planning focus on a few small achievable changes instead of all that you are much more likely to keep up the momentum and finally succeed. So replace a couple of sodas a day with water and then go on from there (don't decide to let nothing but water pass your lips from January 1st (or whatever your start date is). Reduce your portion sizes gradually (instaed of forcinging yourself to feel hungry all the time). Introduce slightly healthier foods one by one into your eating habits. Start taking a short walk each day (or whatever seems a reasonable and achievable amount of activity from your current fitness level) and commit to that. This is how real sustainable changes are made. 5. Keep Motivated Nothing motivates like success. Just don't see success as only a figure on the scale. Though it's nice to see the pounds drop off, it's not much use if they are not going to stay off. Success is a permamnent lifestyle change which has become a habit and which you are happy to live with. Remind yourself of the good changes you are making and be proud of that no matter what the scales say (and remember they DO fluctuate for all sorts of reasons such as hormones and salt intake). Know why you want to lose weight. What will you really get out of it? And remind yourself daily (and if you need to before each meal or decision to exercise/not exercise) of the reasons why you are doing this. Know in your heart of hearts that you CAN succeed in changing your lifestyle one habit at a time - anyone can - and if you want this for you this year you just have to do what it takes and success is yours.
