By CarolAnn Bailey-Lloyd According to a report by Annette Foglino of Discover Magazine, leading researchers are making landmark discoveries on genetics, the link to depression and startling revelations about antidepressants like Paxil, Prozac and Zoloft. Per Eli Lilly and Company, Prozac proportedly works by boosting serotonin levels in the brain. Paxil CR's claims are that it can help regulate the balance of the serotinin chemical, making serotinin more readily available. Pfizer's Zoloft is supposed to help correct the chemical imbalance of serotonin in the brain as well. However, recent findings based on a long-term project alliance among New Zealand's Dunedin School of Medicine, the University of Wisconsin and King College London, found that the 5-HTT gene (the gene responsible for regulating the chemical serotonin and message transmission in the brain) "...comes in pairs and in two sizes - long and short."1 So what does that mean? The study found that persons having "...long genes were half as likely to suffer depression as those with at least one short gene."2 Ironically, individuals who had two short genes were also found not only to suffer from depression, but also had correlating higher levels of serotonin. Because antidepressants (as the ones mentioned above) are designed to raise serotonin levels, it in fact implies that medicines such as these do not work as well as originally planned. Based on these compelling results, the seriousness of administering antidepressants to persons who already have heightened levels of serotonin could present itself with devastating outcomes. According to the FDA's Psychopharmacological Drugs Advisory Committee, an Antidepressants Update report was made on October 18, 1991 discussing the effects of certain antidepressants with regard to suicidal thoughts, acts or other violent behavior. At that point in time, the FDA had already received several reports and testimony "...from patients, advocacy groups, and other interested parties."3 It was over a decade later, (March 22, 2004) when the same FDA released a Public Health Advisory expressing that pharmaceutical companies place warning labels on the same medications due to "Worsening Depression and Suicidality in Patients Being Treated with Antidepressant Medications." If the Public had only been made aware of this information back in 1991, perhaps teen killers Eric Harris and Kip Kinkel may never have committed the violent and horrific acts they did. But these two are only a sparce sample of the matrix of possibilities. Another report from Freedom Magazine relays how antidepressants accounted for over 40,000 adverse reaction reports, including 2,300 deaths (per the FDA) in 1998 alone. With modern, conventional medicine advancing at the speed of light, the perilous reprecussions are only starting to unfold. Although some medicines can be very helpful, it is dangerous to withhold information regarding the effects of mood-altering drugs. For me, entering fishing tournaments would be a waste of time and money. There are those, however, who study every aspect of a particular fish, practice casting, and know their target so well, that they consistently pull in "the big ones" and win the tournaments. It seems the same thing happens in business. Certain companies seem to consistently "pull in the big ones" and gain market share. Why? They know that their target is like a fish! Fish are naturally unpredictable. They only strike at bait that is pulled toward them at the right time and in the right place. Sounds a lot like your potential clients doesnt it? When promoting their business small business owners and entrepreneurs often forget basic marketing principles. When I go fishing, the first thing I do is look for a couple of lakes that have they type of fish that I want to catch. Once I find a couple of lakes that I want like to fish, I would seek out the locals to get the latest scuttlebutt on what my fish are doing. I would ask whats biting, where theyre biting, and what time of day seems to work the best. I would also find out which type bait is hauling them in. Then, I would purchase a map of the lake so that I have a good idea of the "lay of the land." This is a lot like exploring your target market. When Im fishing for Bass, I get the intelligence report from the locals and a map for the lake. When youre fishing for clients, you need to find the right market, gather information and cast your line. Remember, you cant just cast it in any old place and hope that your "fish" will see the lure. Make sure you are casting into the correct places to find your customers. Know where your target market hangs out so that they see your message. Bass hide out under logs, lily pads, etc. If I want to catch a Bass, I throw my lure where the Bass are located. Apply the same concept to your target market. Cast in the correct location, you will save yourself time and money and avoid the unnecessary
"snags" that many marketing campaigns run into. When you market, you need to know what type of customer you are looking for, where they are, and what will attract them to your business. By focusing your efforts on reaching a defined target with a specific message, you will pull in many more "fish" than if you simply float to the middle of the lake and start throwing lines into the water. Doing business in the age of voice mail can be extremely frustrating. While it is true that some people leave their voice mail on all the time, you can sometimes get through by calling off hours. Try calling before 8:30 or after 5:30. You may also find people at their desks during the lunch hour. So should you keep calling or leave a message? Actually, you should do both. Assume that most people won't call you back, so just keep right on calling them. So is there any truth to this mysterious twin connection? Do these things really happen? I'm here to tell you it's true and they really do happen. As a fraternal twin, I've experienced it firsthand. I can't explain it, but I can verify it's real. My twin sister and I seem to have this connection that at times has been very strong. I recall for a period of several years when I was in my
thirties, any time I would be thinking about my twin sister, she'd call me. A thought about her would cross my mind and suddenly the phone would ring and she'd be on the other end. It was wierd. We were never that close growing up. In fact we had a competitive relationship and we fought a lot. Not like some of those twins who are inseparable. Perhaps this is because from a young age our parents encouraged our individuality. They didn't dress us alike, except for a few times when we were very young. They encouraged us to pursue our separate interests and become our own person. But once we became adults we became good friends. Perhaps because we were no longer living under the same roof, going to the same school, and fighting for friends and attention from the same group or people. And that's when the connections began to surface. For example, we grew up with one of those last names with a capital letter smack dab in the middle: McKasson. Growing up this always complicated matters. No one ever spelled or pronounced our last name correctly and I dreamt of the day I'd get married and finally get a "regular" last name. But that was not to be, for me or my twin sister. We both married men with "capital letter in the middle" last names! Now that might not seem like a big deal ... ... but that's just the beginning of a connection that has manifested itself through our marriages. After a few years, my sister divorced and remarried (SHE finally got the "regular" last name!) and another strange connection began to unfold, once again through our husbands. Turns out our husbands were born on the same day so they too share the same birthday. Not only that, they're both left handed, they both wear glasses and they both went to the same high school. Now, they don't look alike and they're not related (except through their marriages to us) but it's almost like they too are twins! Pretty strange. Yes, the twin connection is a reality. Even though my story is pretty tame, I've collected and read stories from other twins around the world and their amazing, unbelievable and unexplainable bonds. And when you think about it, we were created together and spent nine months connected to each other and developing in our mother's womb. MIDI files are quite small, because they contain notation, not recorded sounds. A recorded (waveform) sound contains thousands of frequency values for each second (44,000 if sampled at 44kHz). A midi file may contain 200 music notes in a fraction of the waveform size. The limitation is a MIDI can only store notes. No voices, no sound effects. Anyway, what's the idea? Well, most computer games and music hardware were using MIDI as the preferred way to store and play music. This means there are more than 10 years since the MIDIs have been around. And better yet, thousands of them may be found on the Internet. This is due to music enthusiasts (both music professionals and karaoke fans) who recreated many popular songs in the MIDI format. Oh, and what does "multiple tracks" mean? Poyphony, i.e. more sounds at the same time. Nowadays, the 90's PC computing power fits in a pocket. No wonder they call the pocket PCs "PCs". And all the MIDI stuff can be easily played by a PDA or a cellphone. This is were "polyphonic ringtones" come into play. That's why poly tones have no voice tracks and they fit on low-memory phones (we're talking kilobytes). If there is no other source of income, lawsuit loans are often the best option.
