What If What You Believed Weren't True?

By Vivian Gordon I have heard so many people argue the fact that the Bible is
out dated and was written by men thousands of years ago.
It's funny how non believers all say the same things and
never even consider that God has already written about their
double standards and their hard hearts. I've heard it said
before that it takes more faith not to believe in God than it
does to believe in Him. If you are one of those people who
would rather put your trust in the Big Bang Theory and
believe that you came from pond scum, then I suppose
that's your right. But this doesn't add up if you really think
about it. Our universe is in itself a miracle that took alot of
thought. If it were created out of chaos, it would produce
chaos. Chaos doesn't produce order. How hard is it to
believe that in order to be created, there has to be a Creator
behind it all? There is an older gentlemen in town who claims to be an
atheist. He is always challenging people that if they could
prove there was a God, he would give them $1,000.00. My
husband turned the tables on him the other day and said,
"Joe, I'll pay you a $1,000.00 if you can prove to me there is
no God!" Ol' Joe didn't know what to say. My husband also
brought up the fact that every time ol' Joe would express
himself, he would use the Lord's name in vain. My husband
asked him how he could use God's name when he didn't
believe in God. Again, ol' Joe was at a loss for words. This
behavior is more prevelent among unbelievers and it just
goes to show their ignorance. For those of us who do
believe, it gets almost ridiculous to even think they could
trust their immortal souls to nothing. What drives these
people to exist? Again, it all goes back to the beginning in the Garden of
Eden. Adam gave up his spiritual relationship with God and
brought sin upon every man ever born. Nothing has
changed between then and now. Being born of a sin nature,
we belong to the god of this world, Satan. His job is to keep
us in the dark. "For the god of this world has blinded unbelievers' minds
(that they should not discern the truth), preventing them from
seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of
Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of
God." 2 Cor. 4:4 (Amplified) Here we can see that our adversary wants to keep us in the
dark so that we won't see the truth. If you were to realize this
fact, wouldn't you feel deceived and used? Wouldn't you
want to know the truth? As a result of being a child of the
world, God will not give you the ability to see the truth unless
you come to Him through Christ. God considers these
children as spiritually dead and perishing. Who in their right
mind would want to take the chance of being lost? "But even if our Gospel (the glad tidings) also be hidden
(obscurred and covered up with a veil that hinders the
knowledge of God), it is hidden (only) to those who are
perishing and obscurred (only) to those who are spiritually
dying and veiled (only) to those who are lost." 2 Cor. 4:3
(Amplified) When a person is not spiritually saved, he feels lost deep
inside his soul. This is how God planned it to be. This is His
way to get our attention. Since we were made in His image,
we are spiritual beings who need something more than
ourselves. But He will let us die to our sins if we remain
stubborn to this fact. We all have certain morals that we live
by and if we refuse to pay attention to them, we will be eaten
up with guilt because we never confessed our sins to God. "Their moral understanding is darkened and their reasoning
is beclouded. (They are) alienated (estranged, self -
banished) from the life of God (with no share in it; this is)
because of the ignorance (the want of knowledge and
perception, the willful blindness) that is deep - seated in
them, due to their hardness of heart (to the insensitiveness
of their moral nature.)" Eph. 4:18 (Amplified) I will never understand how people can run around being
miserable in their pride and stubborness. By doing this,
God tells us we will have no share in His eternal life. God is
very patient as He waits with open arms for each and every
lost person to answer when He knocks. But He also
explains the reason for this reaction. "In their spiritual apathy they have become callous and past
feeling and reckless and have abandoned themselves (a
prey) to unbridled sensuality, eager and greedy to indulge in
every form of impurity (that their depraved desires may
suggest and demand.)" Eph. 4:19 (Amplified) God knows the conditions of our hearts and we are by
nature corrupt. We love our sins because it brings pleasure
to our flesh. Those who aren't saved are ready to cause
disruptions and arguements making everyone around them
miserable. A true child of the King however takes on a
different outlook. It looks something like this: "Strip yourselves of your former nature (put off and discard
your old unrenewed self) which characterized your previous
manner of life and becomes corrupt through lusts and
desires that spring from dilusion; And be constantly
renewed in the spirit of your mind (having a fresh mental
and spiritual attitude). And put on the new nature (the
regenerate self) created in God's image (Godlike) in true
righteousness and holiness.." Eph. 4:23,24,25 (Amplified) Personally, I would not want to be put to shame by a liar and
a deiceiver. He's also described as a murderer who has no
personal interest in you whatsoever. Putting on the new
nature created in God's image makes so much more sense
than being ignorant of the truth. If you are reading this and
haven't yet come to know Christ, I pray that you will allow
Jesus to save you from eternal death and suffering. Don't let
anyone lie to you. God is the source for the Truth, He has all
the answers to this life and the next. Why would you trust
your eternity to someone who doesn't care what happens to
you? Ask yourself this, what if what you believe weren't true?
Don't trust your soul to a liar, murderer and thief. "The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I
came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in
abundance (to the full, till it overflows.)" Jn. 10:10 (Amplified) If you know you are a target for destruction, why would you
allow your mind to remain ignorant of the whole truth?
Surely you love yourself more than that to let a thief destroy
you. People value their material things more than their own
lives by installing burglar alarms in their homes. Christ died
to give you an abundant and joyful life. Why not install Him in
your heart today? It doesn't cost a thing. But it sure gives you
a sense of security. If you see yourself described as a nonbeliever, please
consider how much God loves you and wants you to choose
life. Once you ask Him to come into your life, He will do the
rest in changing you. He gives us all a choice between life

Let me regale you with a few interesting tidbits about the evolution of its tradition... First, how do you pronounce Tapas? When pronounced correctly, it sounds like [TAH-pahs]. If pronounced like a typical United States-er, like me, it might be heard as sounding like TAP-uhs... It's your choice! Second, what is the definition of Tapas? Well, I browsed, and peeked and looked everywhere. This is the best tapas definition I could find. Popular throughout Spain in bars and restaurants, tapas are appetizers that usually accompany SHERRY or other APRITIFS or COCKTAILS. They can also form an entire meal and can range from simple items such as olives or cubes of ham and cheese to more elaborate preparations like cold omelets, snails in a spicy sauce, stuffed peppers and miniature sandwiches. Sounds absolutely like my kind of meal! I love anything "miniature". Including my food! Now on to more of the history of tapas... Tapas and the tapas small plates tradition come from Spain as the story goes. They are snacks. As simple as that! These Spanish snacks are small plates with little portions of olives, cheese, bread and lots other unique and creative combinations of food and tapas ingredients. In Spanish, the word Tapa means "cover". So how does this relate to "snacks" you ask? Well, there are several interesting explanations. The most commonly cited narrative of the etymology of tapa is that it is an item, either a piece of bread or a flat card of some kind that would often be placed on top of a drink to protect it from those annoying, buzzy flies (smart!) Somewhere in time, it became a custom to put on top of the "cover" small nibbles of delectable goodies (really smart!) Viola! Tapas small plates were created - IF this explanation is to be believed. Another theory is that the tapas "covered" the appetite between the time Spaniards finished work and when they would take their late evening meals. (Sheesh! At that time, a few tavern owners from Castilla-La Mancha discovered that the strong, odiferous smell of mature cheese could help disguise the fact that they were serving bad wine from their establishments. Thus, serving free cheese with the wine "covered" the bad taste of the wine and the fact that they were cheating their customers! The offering of free cheese when serving cheap wine, became wildly popular. Unscrupulous practices? Yes, but the mouth-watering custom of tapas small plates was invented, according to this version of it's origin. One more interesting bit of tapas history: A few researchers assert that the tapa was born when the Spanish king, Alfonso the 10th (known as The Wise), became ill and had to take small bites of food with some wine between meals. (Wow! He must not have been feeling too bad!) Once King Al recovered from whatever disease was afflicting him, he decreed that no wine was to be served in any of the inns in the land of Castile... (what???!!!! no wine??? wait... keep reading...) UNLESS, the wine was served with something to eat. No wonder they called him King Al, the Wise. Lots of people in his kingdom, apparently would drink their meals (and we're not talking milk!) instead of eating their meals. You can only imagine what the streets must have been like at night, back in the olden days of Spain before the recovered king had his say. Beyond the royal disease of our friend, Wise King Al, in recorded tapas history, there's yet another theory that the first tapas small plates appeared because of the need to take small amounts of food during the work day of many farmers and workers. This allowed them to continue working until it was time to eat the heavy midday meal. (Wow, yet, another demonstration of the voracious appetite of man... oh how we all love to nibble). Wine was the perfect drink to go along with the tapas small plates. And if you didn't know this already, wine makes you feel mellow, increases strength, (or so the workers all told their wives!) And in the winter, a little wine warmed the body to help the workers combat those cold, cold days in the fields and workshops of the Middle Ages. So, between covering the wine with smelly cheese and covering the wine from dirty, germ-carrying flies, small plates evolved from these covering practices. Small plates can only contain small portions, thus, a small bite before a meal not only enhanced the appetite, but had a usefulness beyond the obvious. Choosing the Right Fly for Trout

By Ryan O Kelly One of the questions I get the most as a fly fishing guide is how I know which fly to choose. There are a few different things I look for when choosing a fly. The #1 factor has to be experience. Having experience to draw from will help you find the right fly. Oft times fly fishermen choose a fly in which they have a lot of confidence. I think it is important to have confidence in what your fishing with and how you are fishing. If you have not had a lot of experience or have not had the chance to gain confidence in any particular flies, here are some steps that will help. 1. Experience If you do not have the experience find someone who does. Most fly shops are happy to give out information on what to use and how to use it. If they sale you a fly and it works you will most likely to be back to buy more. Information sharing is a big part of what they do. Take advantage of their experience. Using a guide is a good way to gain knowledge and experience. Pick your guides brain. You paid a lot for this person, take advantage of them. 2. Observation If you have no experience to draw from this is the most important step. Observation starts before you even park the car. Many time as your driving a long the river or stream you are headed to you can see bugs flying around. Many times they make a big splat on your windshield. You may see caddis, midges, mayflies, hoppers, or a variety of others. Next, look around as your walking down the trail to or along the river. Can you hear crickets, are hoppers jumping out of the way, or do you have to wipe the bugs a way from your face. When you get to the water look for any insects on the water. Look for rising fish what they are taking in particular. If you do not know how to identify what specific insects are take mental picture of what they look like. Search your fly box for something that looks the same. If there are no fish rising you want to choose a fly that mimics a beetle, hopper, or anything you may have noticed while making your way to the water. Ninety percent of what trout eat is subsurface. If you are unable to get a fish to rise or there are no visible signs of fish feeding on the surface you will want to fish subsurface. This involves nymph fishing or streamer fishing. For nymph fly selection the first thing to do is pick up a couple of rocks from the river bed. Look to see what kind of life is living on these rocks. If there is moss around, grab a handful and shake it into your other hand. Look for any life that may shake free. In most tail water fisheries there will be scuds(tiny freshwater shrimp), midge larva, and mayfly nymph present in the moss. Rocks and moss are a great way to see the color and size of what the trout are eating. If you want to fish a streamer look for signs of little fish on the edges of the river, under logs or other cover, and along moss beds. You may see fry, fingerlings, or other bait fish such as sculpin darting in and out of these spots. You may even want to toss a rock to see if you can get one of these little guys to be visible. 3. Choosing the Fly Once you have done a lot of observation it is time to choose a fly. Start with size first. Choose a fly that is the same size as the bugs you have observed. Second, choose a fly with the same shape. If the insects on the water have upright wings, choose a fly with upright wings. Last, choose a fly that is a similar color to the bug you are trying to mimic. 4. Remember This is important for the next time you go fly fishing. If you do not know the names of insects go to a fly shop and describe them. You may want to find a book or look on the internet for pictures to help identify what you have seen. Simple insect identification is a good start and knowing what flies imitate them. Make each fishing trip a valuable experience for your next fly fishing adventure. Indigestion, Acid Reflux, Heartburn - Having An Endoscopy Test

The procedure is usually carried out in a specialised unit within a hospital and takes only a few minutes. Endoscopy departments are extraordinarily busy places, however, and the check in procedure before the test and booking out after the rest may take an hour each. It is usually best to set aside the whole morning or afternoon depending on the time of your appointment. Your stomach needs to be empty for a complete test and so, for a morning test, you will be told to eat or drink nothing after your evening meal on the previous day, and for an afternoon test you should eat nothing after a light breakfast. When you arrive at the department either a doctor or a nurse will initially direct you to a waiting area with other patients and then to an area where you can be clerked in. The purpose of this is to explain the test and to answer your questions, but also to make sure that your general health is good enough for you to undergo the procedure, although it is very rare for anyone to be considered too ill. You will also be asked to sign a consent form. When it is your turn you will then be directed to the endoscopy room itself.
It is easy to be daunted by the numerous racks of equipment and machines in the endoscopy suite, but each has his own job to do and is individually straightforward. The most important pieces are the endoscope itself and its accompanying operating equipment, a video screen where the pictures appear and a machine that measures your pulse and oxygen levels using a clip on your finger. This clever clip device works by shining a light through the soft tissue of your finger; changes in the amount of light absorbed show how 'red' your blood is and how much oxygen it is carrying. As well as the endoscopist, there will also be a nurse to look after you and another member of staff to assist the endoscopist. You will be asked to lie down on your left side and you will made comfortable. You may be given a sedative or have some throat spray depending on which you prefer. The nurse will then place the monitoring clip on your finger and may give you some oxygen (usually with a sponge tipped tube up your nose) before placing a small mouth guard between your teeth. This protects both your teeth from the endoscope and the endoscope from your teeth. When ready the endoscope is will place the tip of the endoscope over your tongue and into your throat. You will then be asked to swallow and, as you do so, the oesophagus will open up allowing the endoscope to pass down into your stomach. The nurse looking after you during the test will constantly remove saliva from your mouth with a sucker much like that used by dentists, and this helps to reduce the risk of you inhaling any fluid. You will be able to swallow with the tube in your throat, but fluid can collect in your mouth because the tube holds open the oesophagus, allowing liquid to reflux up from your stomach. Once the endoscope is in position, the test takes only a few minutes, during which time air is blown into the stomach so that a good view can be obtained. Depending on the findings, the endoscopist may take some biopsies (tissue samples), which are entirely painless. When the examination is complete the endoscope is withdrawn and you are taken back to the 'recovery' area. During the test the main symptoms that you can expect are pressure within the throat and occasionally some tummy discomfort and belching because of the air that is introduced. As the endoscope is passed into your throat you may retch once or twice, which is a normal reaction and usually minor. Once you have completely recovered after the test you can go home. Is endoscopy safe? Endoscopy departments are very busy places and thus every member of staff that you meet will be an expert with a lot of experience. Endoscopy is an extremely safe procedure, and serious complications related to a simple diagnostic test are virtually unheard of. Very rarely, however, the oesophagus may tear as the endoscope is being inserted, but this complication usually only happens in patients who have previously undiagnosed abnormalities of the tipper oesophagus. In any case, the risk is probably less than one per 10,000 procedures. Other less serious complications relate to intravenous sedation: if liquid is inhaled it may cause a chest infection, but this is very rare during a simple diagnostic test and is more likely to occur ill frail and elderly people. However, in the first playoff game, the Steelers won the TO battle against Cincy 2-0, with a 31-17 win and cover. Last week, the Redskins won the turnover battle 3-0 in their game at Seattle.
